What’s in a Name?

Quite simply, a lot.

A wise man once told me that “every frog knows its own pond.” Roosevelt Drive was my first pond, a place – and its people – that shaped me, tested me, informed the way I walk in the world. Who I am today is deeply rooted in the many lessons I learned from my family and my friends and neighbors as I navigated a world that was not always kind to a poor Black girl from the projects.

The lessons were many: be honest, be kind, and serve the greater good. But the most important was understanding how I was showing up, what I was bringing to the party - - something my mother cast as “You gotta look at your own.” I had to figure out who I was, what made me tick, and how my words and actions impacted others – to the good and less so. Living that truth has served me well, both personally and professionally, and animates the work we do at Roosevelt Drive Partners to help organizations and their people do their best work.

I left Roosevelt Drive long ago, but it remains at my core, an indelible part of who I am.
